3D Computer Animation – Architecture & Building

There are litteraly dozens of different software programs on the market today that are capable of creating 3D animations. Some like “Blender” TM are freeware and some are very, very expensive ( ie in excess of $10,000 ). Over the years we have had a chance to trial most of these programs, to see what unqiue features they offer and to understand where they have been designed to fit into the market.

Most of the 3D animation software programs that we have looked at where really designed for the professional or semi professional animator / illustrator market. This is not always reflected in the retail price ( as mentioned Blender which really is a very good program is freeware ) where Studio 3D Max ( which is my personal favorite ) is well over $5000 – It is rather, more a reflection of the typical learning curve investment required for a new user to learn to use this type of Software.

In many cases the learning curve to drive 3D animation software packages needs to be measured in terms of months rather than hours, which when you see the software as a professional grade tool is totally acceptable, these are after all complex, extremely powerful tools that take a long time to master.

This type of extremley high quality work takes considerable skill and most importantly a lot of time to create, this results in an extremely high cost of production, with days and even weeks of work required.
